A trailer and key art for HBO Max and Ridley Scott's RAISED BY WOLVES has huffed and puffed its way online.

Marking Ridley Scott's debut as a director for an American television series, RAISED BY WOLVES centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.

The highly-anticipated series, of which Scott directed the first two (of ten) episodes, will debut on September 3rd on HBO Max.

The cast includes Amanda Collin (A Conspiracy of Faith, A Horrible Woman), Abubakar Salim (Fortitude, Jamestown), Winta McGrath (Aloft, Red Dog: True Blue), Niamh Algar (The Virtues, Calm With Horses), Jordan Loughran (The Infiltrator, Emerald City), Matias Varela (Narcos, Point Break), Felix Jamieson (Game of Thrones, The Ghost), Ethan Hazzard (The Long Song, Damned), Aasiya Shah (Call the Midwife, Unforgotten) Ivy Wong (Star Wars: Rogue One, Maleficent 2) and Travis Fimmel (Vikings).

The hit HBO sci-fi series Raised by Wolves will return in early 2022. HBO Max renewed the series, one of HBO Max's first originals, last year. The company seems to think that fans of the new epic sci-fi movie Dune may also be interested in a show produced by Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott. The streaming service has played ads teasing the new season of Raised by Woods in front of Dune streams over this weekend. Scott is an executive producer on the series. He also directed the first two episodes of the show. You can see the teaser below.

Since it completed its first season, Raised by Wolves has added six members to its cast in season two: Peter Christoffersen (When the Dust Settles), Selina Jones (Fragments), Morgan Santo (The Watch), James Harkness (The Victim, Anne Boleyn), Kim Engelbrecht (Eye in the Sky, The Flash), and Jennifer Saayeng (Cursed, The Capture).

Not sure how anything by Ridley Scott escapes my radar but this has been low key. There is so much to stream this year but I put this on my watchlist.

It was a very strange but also intense and engaging show. For me, worth the time.

Raised By Wolves premiered on HBO Max with a lot of expectations. Being Ridley Scott’s first foray into marquee television, this science fiction series was far more meditative and philosophical than expected with the central conflict being that of religion versus atheism. The second season of Raised By Wolves picks up where the season finale left off and quickly shows that this sophomore run is going to be faster and more intense while introducing a new cast of supporting characters and a different side to the planet. In short, Raised By Wolves season two is better than the first season despite some pacing issues in the opening episodes.

It is hard to judge whether the second season of Raised By Wolves will be as good as the first, but with all of the world-building out of the way, these first three chapters are able to spend more time developing characters and exploring the planet rather than explaining who the factions are and why we should love or hate them. There is minimal recap which means if you don’t remember what happened in season one, you may need a refresher before diving into this two-episode premiere. Raised By Wolves season two starts out with a whole lot of stuff going on, but it already feels like a far more balanced season than the first.

Just binged season 1. Creepy, disturbing, distopian, sci-fi and quintessential Ridley Scott. It’s certainly worth the watch if you enjoy Aliens/Prometheus type movies. I’m still curious if a connection will be revealed down the road.

on to season 2…
