Hi all,

appreciate all insights on this IH181. I wonder if having this restored (I know i know the stigma regarding this lol) would help as it seems a really beautiful book except for the 1.5" gash across the front cover and into the first couple of pages. (maybe helps if I said Wolvie did it?)

Has the MVS.

TIA!

What a shame

That tear is brutal to the grade

if the tear is definitely less than 2” than I could possibly see the book grading at a 6.0

however if the tear is closer to 2”, I can see the grade getting hammered closer to 5.0

id be very interested in the thoughts of other boardies with more experience

With these big defects I always try to determine the grade without the defect and the try to guess how much the defect will hurt. Its not an exact science.

I'm going to call it a 6.5 / 7.0 without wolverines slash marks.

Since the slash is long and goes through several pages, I'll bring it all the way to a 4.0 / 4.5.   That may be a little harsh. And when I look at that book, I don't see a 4.0, but that defect hurts

As for resto, I personally wouldn't do it. Without doing any research, I'm assuming a 4.0 blue label is worth more than a 6.5 purple.

That said, if your interested I can recommend a few great folks to work with.
