I know I'm getting old but I swear I read an Amazing Spider-Man issue from the 70s in which the the villain wanted to place closed circuit cameras all around the city of New York atop buildings telling the authorities it was to fight crime or help them do so.  Does anyone remember the issue or am imagining this.

Sounds like ASM #106. Professor Smythe(the Spider Slayer guy) had built a camera system for the police department to watch the city, but Smythe was using the cameras to watch the police, ostensibly to commit crimes wherever the police wouldn’t be.  The camera picked up Spidey with his mask off, so there was that element to the story, too.

Thanks....that is it.  CCTV is so commonplace now,  essentially foretold in comics, well sorta.  Britain evidently installed a limited number in the 60's.  But they became prevalent in NYC in the 90s.  There are other examples of technology which appeared in comics which at the time seemed,  well like something found in a comic book which are now common.  There is an example in a later silver age Daredevil I am looking for.
