Staining on older comics
1 1

2 posts in this topic

I recently bought a great stack of old romance comics and there are a few that have Matt Baker covers and are fairly valuable, but some of them have some bad staining issues, a lot of which looks more like something oily/greasy rather than just water.  What grade range can I expect for a book with a stain such as the example pictured (the example only has the one stain on the back)?  I'm trying to decide if it's worth grading or just selling them as-is.

It's one thing to ask how CGC generally handles staining (typical answer - they hammer significant staining), but if you want to know how it can affect your particular book you should read the sticky in the 'Buddy, Can You Spare a Grade' forum and make a post with some good pics/scans

If you have multiple  books in similar shape to that one ,I'd figure just putting one up in the Spare A Grade forum would give you a decent estimate of what they'd all be around. Good luck!
