I read Maleev does most of his work on a computer - basically everything apart from the covers.

He's a jerk. A good artist, but a jerk.

 

Anyway, I saw quite a bit of his stuff a few years back (2003 WW Philly). He definitely had original pages. Pencils only and he used a computer for finishes. I don't know if he's moved strictly to computer or not.

How good are the raw pencils - i've never seen them

They look very much like the art. Rough, but nice.

 

I like finished art so much better than pencil. It pains me to say, but the best pencil only stuff I've seen is Turner. Very clean, very polished.

I agree - i don't actually own a single pencil only page; considering i own several hundred inked pages that shows my opinion i suppose.
