I'll probably send the Green River book back to be checked again, I'm not sure about the others.

What kind of person could do such a thing? I don't know about you guys, but seeing any damage done to even a modern book makes me a little sick. What kind of greed would there need to be to take a blade to a high grade FF 3?

According to CGC, all your books should be fine. They are saying that the problem only started around six months ago, but to be certain you should go back nine months. That basically means only books GRADED in 2005.

All that said, they haven't said why six to nine months is the cut-off date.

So it's your call.

I just got confirmation that my most expensive book was sold to a dealer by Tom Brulato and Tom said it never touched Jason's hands. That books my call.

You're making the mistake of thinking that guys like Ewert still think of these as comics and something to be treasured. They don't. To them, these are only pieces of paper/plastic slabs, and their only inherent value is that they can be bought and sold for maximum profit. In short, in their minds, comics are nothing but commodities. There is no more sentimental/cultural/historical attachment than they would have with a barrel of oil.

Hey Steve, when I see your posts now, the quote that comes to mind is "Hell hath no fury..." The old sfilosa would never have made that last qualifying sentence. Welcome to the other side, where a healthy sense of skepticism and cynicism has always been and shall remain the order of the day. 893applaud-thumb.gif

I greatly respect your opinion on this issue. While I agree we are better off with CGC then without, the part that has dissappointed me the most is not that CGC didn't spot the trimming, but that they have CLEARLY STATED that they would not release VIA Submission serial numbers.

Hi Steve.

Now I know zilch about US law but doubt it would be any different from UK law, namely that for CGC to release info about JE's submissions would be a clear breach of contract. I suspect CGC would love to provide all the info if they could but they can't simply ignore their legal duties just because JE has been found to be defrauding. They need to make sure they keep squeaky clean unless and until a court says it would be OK to release confidential information to third parties. confused-smiley-013.gif

You might be right. grin.gif

But in general I was always advocating waiting until the facts came out before jumping to conclusions. Now that the facts have come out (or shall I say haven't come out), I am skeptical.

I still believe that the timing has to do with Chris's departure, but that's still pure speculation on my part (and we're never allowed to do that on these boards are we). 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I will admit that I have been one of the biggest champions of CGC (wouldn't be collecting without them), but I think my frustation has been echoed by many that it seems like at this time CGC has put buying HG books in a quandry.

Which books in my collection need to be recheck? Is this book I want to purchase a JE special? Can CGC even detect this trimming consistently or is this something we will have to live with?

Just more questions, and not enough answers? confused-smiley-013.gif
