PGM Ultimate Fallout 4 - To remove from the poly, or not to remove - that is the question!

Well, what do you think?

My dilemma is the same as it has always been - everyone is getting their copy of this book graded. Meaning that polybagged copies, especially high grade polybagged copies like this one are rapidly dwindling in population. Spider-Man #1 (1990) fetches a premium if it's still bagged, though not a big one. With this book, will polybagged versions become the rarest variant once everyone has graded these? Will anyone care? What do y'all fine scholars think?

I am also very very tempted by the just-announced Mark Bagley signing. He signs plenty so the opportunity will come around again but... he's one of my very favorite Spidey artists and this is for sure my most valuable Bagley book even if it's not my favorite Bagley cover (ASM #378 if you were wondering) AND I think it has a shot at the 9.8 if I get it pressed and cleaned as well. Should I send this one and start saving my pennies for another polybagged copy of UF4?

I feel pretty confident that it'd score a 9.4+ after press and clean and for what I paid for this anything north of a 9.0 would be a major, major win... but once it's unbagged it can never be rebagged...

You'll get varying opinions, but overall most will be on the line of removing the polybag and getting it graded. You can keep the polybag if someone wants it with the purchase down the road. Plus, CGC will note the bag was removed if it is a polybag version. If you end up keeping it for a long time, it will keep it's grade and be protected better than in a polybag. 2c

This is a good post for 'Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues' thread, but I'll give my 2c.

If you want it graded, it has to be removed from the bag...whether by you or CGC.  If you do it, you can better inspect the book for any defects the bag hides and whether or not it will benefit from a clean/press.  Also, keeping a polybagged comic around for a long time can have negative effects...i.e. the bag will very slowly start to degrade causing harm to the comic chemically, the bag can rub the ink off in certain areas while it's stored or being shifted around, and the bag doesn't really breath unless holes were worn into it over time.

I think polybags are 'The Devil'.  I always remove comics from polybags, but I cut the polybag open very carefully and keep it...especially if it has art or lettering on it.  If it's just a blank bag, I toss it...which is what CGC will do no matter what.  Other boardies may have a few different ideas and opinions so keep checking back.  Also, we can't give you an accurate grade estimate while it's still in the bag.   Like I mentioned earlier, the bag can hide defects no one can see. (thumbsu

There is no rarity given to the fact that it's bagged and leaving it in the bag can worsen the book's shape over time. So you are better off removing it from the bag and grading it.
