It makes sense to me-a 4.0 is a pretty beat book-this cannot be a 4.0.  Or a 4.5.  5.0 was the only grade that made sense.

Right? That is a big tear. And a tear on the back too. I had this as a 4.0/4.5 tweener, was surprised to get the 5.0. I will say to be fair that the spine is nicely rounded, and the edges are pretty crisp. Maybe they see this as 'midgrade minus a few flaws', as opposed to (say) the All-True Romance which is more generally VGish. But honestly I have no idea, just throwing out scenarios.

The grader was not a trained black stone grader that’s why he did a 5.0 ! 😂 

4.5 was a decent guess but the book had a bit more eye appeal so I went with 5.0.
