Couldn't that be said, for example, about the late 70s Bronze Age?

A very select few, younger, breakthrough artists such as John Byrne and Frank Miller becoming the hugely hyped-up megastars of the time, also Michael Golden and George Perez being very highly regarded, but then there were established stars such as Neal Adams, who'd been drawing prolifically since the 1960s?

Barry smith, nick cardy, jim starlin.

i feel it must be said just in case:

You guys know that the artists are sent scripts and are told what to draw yes?

True.  an artist cannot ruin a comic.  A solid interesting -script would work even with stick figures.  Its the writers that are ruining comics.

There are some very good modern comic book writers.

Hickman, Cates, Zdarsky, Snyder, Fraction, Ewing, Coates, for example.

Name me 5 new artists in the last 5 years that are truly great.  I have seen more bad art that has me scratching my head how it ever got published. It seems like Marvel especially is looking for cheap not good.  Not to say there is not good art, but most of it is being produced by guys that have been around for a fair amount of time.

Daniel Warren Johnson, Geoff Shaw, Tradd Moore, Gerardo Zaffino, and Dylan Burnett.

Daniel Warren Johnson-no design sense, no effective use of blacks, mishmash artist.
Geoff Shaw-no design sense, no effective use of blacks, mishmash artist.
Tradd Moore-crude distorted unappealing cartoony style, microscopic heads:
Cool Comic Art on Twitter: "Justice League by Tradd Moore & Rico Renzi… "

Gerardo Zaffino-not bad but rather derivative
Dylan Burnett- the best of the lot but nothing to write home about.

Not sure many would agree with that assessment.

Tradd Moore is generally considered the most desirable modern artist among original art collectors. Everyone obviously has their own preferences, but I feel his work is absolutely extraordinary. Here are some other examples of his work. These are splashes, but happy to share sequential examples too if storytelling is in question.

Silver Surfer Black #3 - pg. 4-5 Tradd Moore pencil and inks.: comicbooks

Silver Surfer: Black #5, Page 1 Comic Art
