This next book has an interesting backstory. I’ve always been a horror fan. I have the very first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland that I purchased new at Robby Hobby in Vacaville, CA in 1958. I’m not sure what’s holding it together. It looks like it was run over by a Mack Truck and smells like my gym socks after PE.

Since then I’ve bought hundreds of horror related comics and magazines. In the early 1970s I bought the Marvel horror comics; The Frankenstein Monster, The Tomb of Dracula, The Living Mummy and Werewolf by Night.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t a collector in those days but I did hang on to a number of the books. Recently I’ve been going thru and grading and rebagging/boarding my Silver and Bronze Age comics that I haven’t looked at in over 35 years. And what did I uncover but ??????????. I was shocked when I found it because my record keeping wasn’t the best and I didn’t know I had it.

I graded it 7.0 -7.5. There was some soiling on the back cover. There were some creases, bends and indents but I didn’t see any color breaks. I thought a press and cleaning would bump up the grade to 8.0 – 8.5 and maybe even 9.0 if I got lucky. Well, I was amazed when I got it back- a 9.6 with white pages. It’s ready for a new home after 48 years.
