Hello,

Since the proceeds for the RDJ signing are going to charity, I was wondering how much, if any, of the cost could be used as a charitable donation on an upcoming tax return. A couple friends and I are sending in some comics and we were wondering about this. Thanks.

RDJ (or a foundation of his) and/or the CGC SS host facilitator would list 'all' of the proceeds donated, whether they got use all of the donation for a tax deduction or not depends on a number of factors including the definition of 'proceeds', fixed costs, income, state of the organization, state the donation is made, etc.  If you're concerned about what portion of the purchase price actually gets donated, they (the CGC SS facilitator) will probably be pretty transparent if you ask.

 

If you're asking about the purchaser getting a tax-write off, you should check with a certified accountant in jurisdiction, but the answer will probably be NOTHING. You bought something (or paid fair value for a service), you didn't donate anything.  The donator is RDJ or the CGC SS facilitator.  Do you try to get deductions for girl scout cookies you buy?
