Agreed.  The stain might clean out, but not entirely...IMO.  I don't think the grade will improve beyond an 8.0...again, IMO.

Quick question from someone trying to learn... maybe it's me but the only thing I'm seeing here is the stain. Am I missing some other significant flaw(s), or is that stain on the back cover enough to plummet this book's value to the 7.5/8.0 range?

I feel like I see silver/bronze age books with more apparent issues grade higher - is there a different standard for modern?

Stains get hammered by CGC.

Considered a moderate to severe flaw in most cases.
