Steranko to Attend Washington DC Comic-Con on October 30th

Washington, DC – Capitol Collectibles of Washington, DC, is pleased to host our third comic book convention for 2005. The Washington DC Comic-Con will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 30th, at the Marriott at Metro Center in the heart of downtown Washington. This is going to be our biggest show yet, as our guest of honor will be iconic artist STERANKO!

As an illustrator, musician, art director, magician, photographer, fire-eater, designer, escape artist, filmmaker, pop-culture lecturer, and publisher, Jim Steranko has cut a ferocious path through the entertainment arts. The more than 100 innovations he created as an artist-writer on Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America, and X-Men series revolutionized the comics form and, as an illustrator, he painted a multitude of memorable book covers, record jackets, and movie posters, including 30 Shadow paperbacks.

Steranko has shown his work at more than 200 exhibitions worldwide, including the Louvre, while his art has sold at major auction houses for more than $20,000. His two volumes of The History of Comics have sold more than 100,000 copies each and as editor-publisher of the international entertainment magazine Prevue, he conducted hundreds of star interviews and penned more than three million words. As a filmmaker, he has collaborated with uber-directors Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Francis Ford Coppola on some of their most popular movies.

Steranko has recently been cited by Michael Chabon as an inspiration for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and by Wizard magazine as one of the “Top Five Most Influential Comic Book Artists of All Time”. Other recent projects include Domino Lady: The Complete Collection(Vanguard), the Discovery Channel documentary “Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked”, and writing for a recent episode of Cartoon Network’s “Justice League” series. He is making his first ever Washington, DC, appearance in support of his “Spirit of America” print, which benefits an art scholarship fund for the children of terrorism victims.

The Washington DC Comic-Con will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 30th, at the Marriott at Metro Center in the heart of downtown Washington. There will be platinum, golden, silver, bronze and modern age comic books, toys, DVD's, original art, and much more. All of this is easily accessible via Metro and there will be plenty of free street parking. Admission is only $5 (with flyer) and children under 12 are free.
