Then what is this?

If you look even closer...you'll see 4 additional spine breaks, and minor impact to the LLC. After reading the responses & reviewing my previous scan, I see that a larger scan is in order.

I would guarantee no less than a 9.2 out of CGC on this one. CLICK HERE poke2.gif

do not bother sending that Powerman 50 in to CGC if you plan on re-selling. I posted a link to a nice 9.4 of 48 here a couple of weeks ago (which is Byrne art as well and their first team-up) and it sold for less than the cost of a slab. That would have to come back a 9.6, or, more likely, a 9.8, to have a prayer.

in any event, both of the corners on the right side appear to have some issues. if i'm not imagining things I think it would be a tough one to get more than a 9.4 on.

I gotta agree, #50 is a little late . . . I've got 2 or 3 really sweet #17's though, what do you think about the prospect of those for resale?

I have no idea on Powerman 17. #1, of course, does pretty nice because it's tough in 9.4+. I always viewed #48-#50 as books that should be valued by collectors, but so far, I haven't seen much interest. I guess it's because it's a dead third string series like Master of King Fu, the Defenders, etc (probably worse off than the Defenders). I think claremont wrote them too -- I got one of them signed by him, he had totally forgotten he had written on that run and was a little bit embarassed with all the jive talk he threw in there.

Anything as early as 17 will get some interest in 9.8. But that's to early to get the "modern" CGC slabbing price, right? $25-$30 to slab is a big chance unless you have enough other pre-'76 books to do a pre-screen on.

I've seen a number of these 20/25 cent cover price third string marvels getting $30-$40 in 9.6. i remember bidding on a bunch of marvel two in ones a while back and the winners being in that range. probably a similar level of interest to Powerman.

actually, these somewhat similarly situated 9.6ses wound up in the $20-$30 range, which is sort of depressing unless you get your books slabbed for free.
