Thanks all, that’s pretty much what I thought. That’s not a full split on the bottom left corner. There’s a split and a deep crease in it. Anyone think it’s improvable? I don’t see these defects as being pressable.

Not sure what's to improve. You've got good cover gloss, the real defect is the spine. Even from new the spine on a squarebound can look awful. Yours is nicely bound. The trouble with the square binding is it puts all the stress from opening the cover onto one crease, over and over again. Yours is already better than most I have seen.
