How to tell if a slab has been made a forgery?

Hi. Was thinking about purchasing this 9.4 book, However I noticed all the damage and was wondering how to tell if it’s a forgery? How much damage is allowed to get a 9.4 grade? It’s got banged up corners, off white pages, and spine roll, and no grader notes!! Should there be grader notes for any book under 9.8? Thanks.

Hello

It's hard for me to give an exact answer.  Especially with the label cropped.  From the pictures, it appears that this book has suffered from Shaken Comic Syndrome.  This happens when the book isn't secure in the holder, and is allowed to shift around and cause damage.  This problem occurred mostly in the older style holders.
