Hi all,

So I worry my love for a good date stamp might be clouding my judgement on this one. Curious what people see. I see two spine ticks (one of GL shoulder and one slightly higher), the date stamp (can you really even call it a flaw ) and maybe the corners aren’t razor sharp? Aside from that it’s flat as can be, no rips or tears other than the 1-2 millimeter one at the top of the spine.

All thoughts appreciated!

I'm thinking 9.4...beautiful copy!

Thanks

I personally pondered that high but was afraid to allow myself to think it was that nice. Either way it is going to CGC next month and I will do my best to remember to post follow ups.

The bottom right corner appears a too worn and rounded for the NM range IMO. I'm thinking 8.0/8.5

The pictures look worse IMO. In person, that corner is there just like minutely blunted....even so does that warrant a whole 1.0+ deduction? It is defects like that that I am most curious about and if it comes back an 8.0-8.5 well clearly they hammer it. I was eying a couple 9.0-9.4 copies of this that sold on HA in the last year though and a couple have corners similar to this so that is why my hopes were higher...especially since a couple of those copies had worse spines

I'm afraid it's a 9.0. Maybe even an 8.5 because of the tear in the upper left corner cover. It's minor but may be enough to hold it down a bit.
I have a 9.4 and I wish MINE had an arrival date stamp on it. Those things - if placed by a vendor and are correct - add to the provenance and the history of the book. I think you are fortunate to have a date stamp on your copy. Your book is a beauty overall!

I love this book and it is one that I could own multiple copies of. The very 1st mail order book I ordered as a kid from Howard Rogofsky.

Thanks for your insight! I was afraid of this regarding the tear. I am still super stoked about it overall though (paid less than $100 for it which to me was a no brainer) so I might grade it either way. Was really hoping it would get into the 9.0s but that top left corner I agree, its a degrading factor

It's not a horror story by any means. The color breaking dingo lower on the spine is a concern because it gets into the white border as well. I would guess 8.5 overall.

Get it graded or keep it raw, still a great book and is still withing reach of most average collectors like myself. No to hijack, but I have been collecting DC, signed facsimile editions. Here's the latest one I got. It's only pea under the mattress for me is Green Arrow's dialogue was changed from the original. Seems to me the barcode would be enough of a difference but I guess not. Still a shiny thing this magpie can squirrel away.

whether the tear is bindery or not...i happen to think it's production related...I would estimate this copy at least 9.0

i'll go 9.2 but would not be shocked at 9.4

I don't think a C&P changes anything

Thanks! That’s how I felt (9.2-9.4 potential) but I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. The small tear on this book seems production related but you never know. I have a similar one on my ASM 316 and that book (along with some spine ticks) got 9.0.

This has a flawless spine so that’s why I dared to dream higher
