Actually, I think the scan IS a little dark. You might want to play around with the gamma setting/levels/white balance a bit to calibrate your scanner (and also your monitor). (I'm not advocating distorting your picture so that you change the color of the comic book pages, mind you.)

 

Gamma correction controls the overall brightness of an image.

 

If you are using Photoshop or some other professional quality software, set your gamma setting under Monitor Setup to about 2.5. Tweaking the gamma between 2.0 - 2.5 should give you the best image on all the different platforms. (PC, Mac, SUN, SGIs, etc.)

 

(It also depends on your video card.)
