I don't recall the death of a comic book artist affecting me as much as Neal's passing has.  I spoke with him on a couple of occasions and he was incredibly friendly and had a broad smile that lit up the place.  His work played such an important part of my love for comics from my earliest years.  I remember reading a beat up copy of Giant-size X-men 2 and being swept up in one of the best stories I'd ever read to that point (I was a whole 7 years old, I'd been around).  Over the years, I kept finding more of his work from the 60s and 70s and being enthralled with it.

When I discovered the wonderful world of comic magazines, I was thrilled to find so many examples of work, both covers and interiors, that Neal had produced.  It felt like a hidden treasure trove and I couldn't get enough.  Truth be told, I still can't.  I never grow tired of looking at it.

In celebration of his life and work, here are a few original art pages of his work from Creepy 14 (not mine, taken from the internet):

I own a lot of comic books and magazines. While they are not all Neal Adams, I can honestly say I own all of them because of Neal. As an only child, he was often my friend as I was growing up and oh the adventures we had. He is remembered and loved by the boy I was and the man I am. He expanded the known boundaries in his art and I, we, are better for his work and effort.
