Netflix's Resident Evil
2 2

It's...something.

I'm a huge fan of the games, and absolutely hated the movies except for the most recent Racoon City one. I don't hate this show, but at the end of the day it could have been called anything else and launched as a brand new property and nobody would have batted an eye or made comparisons to Resident Evil - in fact I think people would have been more accepting of its faults had it not been RE. It'll be forgotten from my brain within a week, to be recalled only for a brief moment the next time I see a fat caterpillar outside, or if/when I start dabbling in Zootopia porn.

I do like Wesker in this though and the productions values are decent enough with care put behind the sets and overall feel.

We are on ep #3

Certainly better than the last film - not a great series, but certainly watchable if nothing better is on.

Better than Army of the Dead though!

5.5/10

Why can’t they just make a suspenseful booby trapped mansion series? How hard is that? The mansion was the star of the f’n original game. A series could still take some liberties like have a larger team enter and for the first five episodes, have them get knocked off one by one by traps and creatures. Then move to different parts of the grounds and eventually to the labs. The fact that we’ve never seen a shark in a Resident Evil movie is a fail. I’m twenty minutes in to this new series and struggling.

Half of the recent Resident Evil movie (Welcome to Raccoon City) was basically that, and the mansion looked good...but then it lost any suspense or build up due to the film cutting back and forth between it and the other parallel plot due to them combining two games together. So close to getting a proper RE game adaptation. Sigh.

This is what Resident Evil IS

Bravo Team stumbling upon the mansion, only to find out Wesker planned it all out to take over Umbrella is the best plot anyone could come up with

There is so much depth to the franchise, at least up to the 5th game, that they could translate it almost directly.

They could do a superior to the games job of it with only a few tweaks

I just don't fkin get it.

We did the last 5 eps after an all-nighter on the H2O

I can honestly say that this was one of the worst shows ever made.

I don't have words.

Well at least it gives us all to unite on something and rip on!🤷‍♂️😂

It was the Multiverse of Muddleness for sure.

What a wasted opportunity for what could have been a good show.

It's really weird, cause lore wise this does fit pretty well with the rest of the Resident Evil games since it picks up after 5, the production values are there with some great sets, the characters I like for the most part (Wesker and his daughters are great, everyone else though...meh), and it was clear that effort was made to many aspects of the effects (even the 'bad' dialogue honestly feels right at home for an RE game and can be excused) but still everything just feels off.

I think what bugs me the most is us RE fans have not even gotten a single satisfying adaptation to begin with. Nothing done so far has scratched that itch, and the things we did get only came partially close (Racoon City) or if it was watchable was totally unrelated to the games. Had we already got at least a single semi decent mansion horror movie to appease the fanbase I think this series would have landed a little better as its basically feels like it could be a direction a later RE game takes with its plot - but as it stands is all we can see now is a show with great production that potentially took away another chance of seeing the thing we all wanted in the first place, and thus resent it for that loss every single step of the way. Give us the original first before you deviate and explore a whole new direction!

At this point I don't even know if I'm watching the show because I'm hate-watching it, or if I actually like something about it on some level (what that is I have no clue)...or something else. Maybe it's just the mind control tech.

I couldn't make it through the 1st episode without losing interest, and I hadn't read a single review or opinion on it. It just wasn't RE.

The first game is still my favorite. If they made a film half as good, it would be twice as good as anything offered yet (haven't seen Welcome to Racoon City).
