Unfortunately, a slab can't handle much of an impact. I don't know what they could do to add an impact-absorbing feature to the slab, but most options would probably be cost prohibitive. The issue underscores the importance of packing slabs well for shipment. No amount of padding is too much padding. All that padding helps to absorb the energy of hard impacts.
