Blunted lower corners, slight edge wear, slight color rub, an accumulation of spine stress lines, some w/color break, 1/8" color breaking crease at top right corner/edge.

IMO...

7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-):  Back to Top
Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.

7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF):  Back to Top
An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.

Guess the press helped

you'll have to show us a photo of the slab when you get it. I'm not surprised those spine indentions pressed out. I'm shocked, at minimum, at a 9.8 given the minor (but noticeable) blunting of the two spine corners, particularly the lower one. It's the sort of stuff that drives me crazy when picking candidates. Things that I think look better come back low, and things I'm sure are a reach come back high. Not always, but 20% of the time well outside the expected range.

Low chance of it, but I'm convinced I got a slab back with a different copy of the same book. I swear that I sent a newsstand, and got back a direct. Having the photos is a must & that was a lesson learned.

Yes it arrives on the 25th so I'll post photos then. I did not think I'd get a single 9.8 in my submission at all lol.

it's better than getting a 5.5 when you thought 9ish for sure. I got a X-Men 266 at 9.8 that I had pegged around 9.0, and a ASM 194 at 9.2 that I was certain was a 7.0 max. It's rare, but happens

Lucky me! Personally I don't think it looks that bad. Not 9.8 but not a 7 lol.

A F/VF is a good book that does not look bad. A lot of people think those are not desirable but I think 7.0's are great. This is a nice book but I think you really made out with the grade. Congrats!
