Is Hulk 181 (sub- CGC 9.0-9.2) Dying?

77 posts in this topic

After seeing that Hulk 181 grading thread, I decided to look over some Hulk 181 CGC 7.0-9.0 EBay sales to see what a "fair price" would be, and I was amazed at how low these books are selling for.

I can remember when CGC 6.0 copies were selling for $400+, now that seems to be what a CGC 7.5-8.0 might bring.

Higher-grade 9.2 and above seems solid, but it looks as if the ultra-common nature of this book is finally catching up to anything lower.

Given that there are 497 BLODs in 9.2 or better, I'm surprised that even the prices for 9.2 and better copies have held up as well as they have. Even assuming generously that 20% are resubs, that still leaves about 400, with undoubtedly many more out there.

The only reason I would ever buy this book was if I was ever putting together a hulk run and needed it for completeness sake. EVen then, though, I'd buy it begrudgingly. I can think of no other book in the hobby that is so stupidly overpriced, and I get so sick of dealers parading this book around as if they've just acquired the holy grail.

There are so many wonderful books out there to chase, can the hobby get over this one already?? frustrated.gif

it just introduces probably the second most popular character besides spider-man.

Bah, Wolverine has had his time in the sun, but the character doesn't hold a candle to generation-spanning icons like Batman and Captain America.

I guess 60 years from now we'll know if you are right wink.gif For now, i'd say that there are few characters more popular wether you like it or not, and probably none from the past 20 years or so that can even touch his popularity.....well, sorry, forgot about Spawn.....and greggy of course. tongue.gif
