Question: What ticks can be pressed and what can't be?

Sent my first batch of comics to CGC in two decades a few weeks before Christmas. I sent several modern comics to CCS for pressing. I was amazed that the 100+ day turnaround ended up being a month. This was my first time sending any comics to be pressed so I'm curious if I misidentified what can be pressed along the spine and what can't be. This is for my Iron Man 120. I purchased as NM but there were a few issues that were hid by the miss-wrap. The issues along the spine was some ticks (specifically on the lower corner), a very slight spine roll, and the top, bottom, and right edge not being as kosher as I would like. Here's the before scan (I should have done closeup shots of the spine but didn't).

Here's the after (using my cell since my scanner isn't big enough). These images aren't the best but the edges were all straightened up very well. No grader notes.

But it looks like the ticks on the spine remained or became more visible/defined than before.

So my question: what's a rule of thumb when it comes to pressing spine ticks? Does these having to be white-on-white (so no color) change how to interpret them or not?

From my experiences (more than 500 comics graded and slabbed) spine ticks rarely can be "fixed". The amount or severity of color break is key though as some pressers are better than others in this area. @Tony S is the best I've ever worked with and my go-to-guy since I started working with him for the last two years now. Total faith and trust in his ability which has translated into the final grading outcomes with CGC. (thumbsu

Thanks so much for posting this, I had the same issue. My copy came back from CCS with spine tics and I was rather annoyed. I now am pressing books myself and I have had some success with hand held irons at getting these out.

(This is from my own collection of books I pulled out of a dollar box around 1980. The dealer of that time really thought highly of it, it was one of the books that was given a bag.)
