Probably the coolest piece of Star Wars art that will be sold went up today at Bonham's - the Chakyin original art for the first Star Wars poster.

I ended up being the underbidder and am already having some remorse at having not gone higher.

I was on the phone for this lot. Was looking to pay about 25K. A great piece but not the poster art that the average Star Wars fan is familar with.

Mervin Lee was the high bidder, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this pop up with Bill Hughes soon.

That's killer. I'll never forget how geeked out one of my friends was when he showed me his copy of this poster. I was pretty geeked out too, to be honest, since Chaykin rocks and I was a big Star Wars fan at the time.

Nice image, but it's not artwork used on any of the release posters. The OA to those would go for a mint, I'm sure.
