It is more Kennedy wanting to build out the franchise I think. Look at what they invested into the multimedia approach for the High Republic. I expect them to do more of the history as it is wide open IP space for them.

I'm actually more worried that Palpatine will show up again, either via time machine or the movie featuring the origin of his cloning machine.
