The Mad King by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace 51402   $12

The first of the "Tall" Ace editions. A dynamic Frazetta cover for sure.

Fine/Very Fine. Appears unread or very lightly read. Square solid spine has a hairline crease. Very light wear. Mild toning to the interiors. A very pretty 50 year old book.

If He Hollers Let Him Go by Chester Himes  Signet 756   from 1949     $40  SOLD @20% off to Outerboroguy

The first paperback edition of Himes' first book with the classic and fantastic cover art of James Avati. A searing race novel from before he created the legendary Noir Detective duo of Coffin Ed and Gravedigger Jones.

Fine. Super glossy and new looking. Solid spine has slight slant but pages are tight and supple with the usual toning. Lamination is in great shape with only slight lifting. Very high grade for this tough title.

Death In The Library by Philip Ketchum   Dell Books No. 1    A key first issue.   $60  Sold @20% off to GreatCaesarsGhost

William Strohmer's clever and bloody Art Deco cover art scheme started it all for the Dell Books line in 1943. One of the most iconic books in the hobby as it launched a decades long history of mystery publishing, later with maps on the back, that are highly collected. The first several dozen numbers had the extra large "eyeball in a keyhole" that is probably my favorite vintage PB colophon.

Very Good Minus/Very Good. Solid square and tight, has some light creasing on the front and a bit heavier on the back with a small hole. Rare in any condition and this is quite high grade for the title. My keeper is not much better and I've been looking for years.

Give 'Em The Ax by A.A. Fair (Erle Stanley Gardner)   Dell No. 389  Published in 1950.    $12   SOLD to OtherEric

A really nice Leg Art cover on this Bertha Cool and Donald Lam mystery.

Very Good/Very Good plus. Solid square and tight. Pages supple and creamy. Super glossy. Readers crease and front spine edge wear are the only things keeping this from a higher grade. The Map Back on the cover is unmarred. A nice copy of a 73 year old, cool cover Dell.

Hollywood Bedside Reader  John O'Hara, James T. Farrell et al.  Avon Books No. 338    Published in 1951      $35   SOLD at 20% off to goldust40

A  sick copy of this amazing Good Girl art cover PB by Robert Crowl. I love her.

Very Fine/Near Mint. A grade I pretty much never give since VF is my highest but occasionally they come around.  Blinding gloss, Perfect lamination, Bright, square and tight. Pages are off white with almost no toning. Highly unusual page quality. It doesn't get any better than this.

I'm a sucker for books by "A.A. Fair" that don't actually mention Erle Stanley Gardner on the cover.

A Darkness In My Soul by Dean R. Koontz    DAW Books No. 12    First Edition PBO   1972  $20

A near perfect copy of an early Koontz Paperback Original. Cover art by Jack Gaughan.   Tough to find early DAW books in this shape. A real find for any Koontz collector.

Very Fine minus. Spine is square and uncreased, has tiny bindery chip at top. Covers bright and glossy, obviously unread with only a trace of a bend along the spine. Trace of edgewear on the tips. Great page quality. Unlikely that a better copy could be had.
