The Black Star by Lin Carter   Dell Books 0932   from 1973      $12

First Edition with a gorgeous Frank Frazetta sword and sorcery cover.

Fine Plus.   Glossy and new looking. A touch of wear at bottom spine edge, couple of tiny finger bends to covers otherwise only has very light surface and edgewear. Small price in marker on front page.

The Reign of Wizardry by Jack Williamson  Lancer Books 72-761   from 1964        $15  SOLD to mrstrange

A fantasy classic by a Grand Master with a super cool Frank Frazetta cover.

Very Good Plus/Near Fine. Bold colors. Appears unread but spine has slant and has a non-color breaking crease with tiny tear at top of the front cover. Inside of covers are lightly toned but pages are white. Very unusual page quality. Lancers usually fall apart when you stare at them.

Ardor On Aros by Andrew J. Offutt  Dell Books 0931   from 1973      $15

First Edition with a fantastic Frank Frazetta cover.

Fine.  Super glossy and new looking. Color nick on spine, hairline crease. Very light surface and edgewear although every little thing shows on this impossible black cover. Very hard to find nice copies of this one.

Enter Without Desire by Ed Lacy (Pseudonym of Len Zinberg) Avon 561  from 1954     $20

Hard boiled noir with a gorgeous Good Girl cover by Robert Schulz. Very hard to find Avons from this period in this condition.

Near Fine. This copy is unread and glossy. Slight spine slant but virtually no creasing and only a few hints of wear, mostly on the back cover. A very pretty copy of a classic Avon.

Love's Lovely Counterfeit by Hard Boiled Master James M. Cain. Avon 161 1948.           $20

Nice uncredited GGA cover from the time when Don Wollheim started editing Avon's PB line and began employing better, more realistic artists than on their early books.

Very Good/Very Good Plus.  Spine has slight slant but is solid, pages tight. Virtually no creasing and only light edgewear, including a tiny hint of a split at the rear bottom spine. Pages toned as usual but very supple. A very nice copy.

The Weird Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft  Bart House #4 1945    $60  SOLD to TupennyConan

One of the hobby's great classic covers. Lovecraft's first mass market paperback and becoming very hard to find in nice condition. They invariably show up beaten and color faded. Also contains The Whisperer In the Darkness, The Outsider, He, and The Festival.  A must have for any vintage PB collection.

Very Good.  Solid tight binding, pages tight and supple. Incredible page quality, bright white and the interior covers are bright white as well. Spine sunned as usual, otherwise strong colors. A scrape on the back and general edgewear keeps it from higher grades. Overall a very nice copy of a classic cover vintage paperback.

Love Addict by Don Elliott (Robert Silverberg)  NIghtstand Books NB1501 R    1959.   $75

One of the top sleaze books and I'll probably regret selling it. Robert Silverberg's notorious foray into sleaze writing before he became a Science Fiction Superstar.  Add that it's a classic Harold W. McCauley cover of the girl sticking a needle in her leg and you get a must have vintage PB for collectors of Drug/JD and science fiction alike. Very hard to find in any edition or condition. I believe this is the second printing.

Very Good.  Solid tight binding, pages nice and supple. Cover rubbing and edgewear.  A sweet copy of a classic vintage paperback.

The Autumn People by Ray Bradbury     Ballantine U2141  1965    $50  SOLD @20% off to mrlatko

A gorgeous copy of one of  Frazetta's best PB covers and a great collection of Bradbury EC comic book stories. Part of the set of the first attempt to resurrect the EC stories by Ballantine.

Fine/VF.   Front cover is VF, the line you see by the spine is the printers indent where the cover is meant to be turned. Back cover has a light bend at bottom and a couple lines. Spine is square and uncreased, has a couple of light stress lines. Great page quality.

Amazing looking in hand. With the dark covers, this one just doesn't come around like this.

I think I prefer the cover Avon used on the Murder Mystery Monthly version... although I'm glad they were doing new covers at this point.  The handful where they reuse the MMM covers on the paperbacks can make searching REALLY annoying.

Taffy by Philip B. Kaye Avon 377  1951       $25

Another awesome Raymond Johnson Good Girl cover. This one of some Harlem gang girls for Kaye's JD classic. What I call a "fridge magnet book" because it's so well known in pop culture circles it appears on fridge magnets and other knick knacks.

VG/VG Plus   Glossy and never read. Has some laminate peeling on the spine, neat name stamp on inside cover and page edge. Interiors toning as usual but virtually no creasing or edgewear.

Back To The Stone Age by Edgar Rice Burroughs  ace 04632    $15 SOLD to dover

The first of the "Tall" Ace editions. I like these better than the 1st PB shorts, just for the sheer real estate Frazetta's gorgeous covers get. I try to get both for my collection.

Very Fine. Unread glossy, square, uncreased, you name it... Structurally as close to perfect as it gets. Has mild toning to the interiors but looks pretty much like it did on the rack in 1973.

The first of the "Tall" Ace editions. Frazetta's cover here is so moody.
