Its an intersting question, personally i not search to obtain specifically first print but want to know if it can does a great difference on the price people are ready to pay for books.

For exemple i have a second print of Batman 423, did you think there are a great difference of value comparated with a first print?

Generally 1st prints are more valuable than the 2nd printing, however, it depends on the book, the total number of books printed in each print run and how many print runs there were for that particular book.

Remember, 1st, 2nd, 3rd print runs are not Variants, for the most part it is the same, identical book that was printed again to keep up with demand after the 1st print sold out.

As far as your Batman 423, the 1st print is more than twice the the value of the 2nd print according to what MCS is selling them for, eBay sold auctions are confirming this to be true, for the most part the 2nd printing is bringing 50% of the 1st printing price (for books in the same grade) and the 3rd print is bringing 25% of the 1st print price.

The best answer is - it depends.   Some 2nd prints sell for half the 1st prints, some sell for more, and many sell for far less.  A 2nd print of Star Wars 1 sells for a small fraction of the original.  Same with New Mutants 87.

On the other hand, reprints of common books like many Batmans and Detectives sell for virtually the same as the first prints.

On a few occasions, a later print may sell for a large premium compared to earlier ones.  I believe a 5th print of Man of Steel 18 sells for more than a second or third print.

There is a niche market for reprints compared to the broader hobby.
