How was the show?

The show was not nearly as well attended as in the past.  Big books were not sought after at all.  Lots of people commenting on how nice they were but no one wanted to pull out their wallets for them.  We had a bunch of smaller slabs sell and a whack of cheaper raws.  We brought a new collection to Niagara 2 weeks ago and we brought what was left to this show.  We moved almost 3 long boxes worth of the 8 boxes we had left.

A few have reported they didn't have a decent show and struggled for sales.

How many dealers in total would you say and what was the Canadian dealer to American dealer ratio?

It's a 1 day show that is 4 times a year (now, previously about 6-8).  Never any American dealers as it's only a 10am-4pm show.
Wes was on point there is about 40 different dealers and about 125 tables total.  There is a good spread between shop and weekend warriors and a sprinkling of the guy who sets up once to sell his collection (not very often, as there is a big wait list to set up).  Shows been running for about 7-8 years now.  Moved from one hotel to another about 2 years before covid and just expanded to add another 10 dealers or so and make aisles wider by opening up the full ballroom.  Many small shows have popped up in the last few years as this show used to be the best and packed, but seems like everyone is being spread thin and reducing dealers and attendees over the last couple.

There is lots of digger bins and becoming a lot of slabs (mainly moderns).  There are some good high quality slabs in the room (we often run as Wes showed) some solid silver/bronze/copper slabs.  There are a few others that had some bangers as well like an ASM1 7.5 (80k cdn) and a BB28 8.0 (50k cdn) in the room but at those sort of prices they are more so show pieces than for sale.

Thanks for the photos and review. I haven't been to a smaller show in years (or, at this point, *any* show in years)... this one looks really good. I want to be there!

Canadians buy and sell comic books?  I thought they paddle around in canoes trading beaver pelts...

We also wear a toque and balance a long box against a 6 pack of Canadian beer while riding a horse thru the snow on the frozen tundra of Canada while listening to Celine Dion on a Sony Walkman.

That sounds like fun. ... ... Maybe not. :)

That's gotta be worth at least a loonie or a twoonie, right?

So, this is my favourite local show by far because it’s a true comic book show and you can find just about any Silver Age -modern book you want.  There is also a handful of dealers with decent Golden Age books.

the location is easy to get to, and there’s no cosplay folks clogging the aisles.

I think attendance was light this weekend for a few reasons:

first and foremost, this weekend is the first summer weekend and the traffic headed out of the city and into cottage country was HUGE.

Secondly, it was the finale of gay pride month, with the main pride parade on Sunday.  Given Toronto has the largest gay pride parade, there’s no doubt several folks skipped the show for the parade.

finally, we just had a show in Niagara Falls a few weeks ago, plus HeroesCon and Major online comics auctions ending this past weekend May have left some wallets tapped out

I personally attribute slower / smaller comic sales at Canadian shows directly to the rise in interest rates here in Canada.
