Carlo M
I just saw the news of Dan Green’s passing. To me, he rightfully belongs to the list of the greatest super hero inkers, being able to work on very different artists (ranging from S Buscema and Byrne at the start of his career) and being to ‘80s Uncanny what Sinnott was to ‘70s FF, ie a provider of consistent “look” across various artists. I am so proud to own some of his work. KirbyCollector, melanrus, Twanj and 5 others 4

grapeape
Very sad. Dan left his mark as an artist. It feels like we're losing all of our friends.😢

Popular Post Readcomix
I guess I did not post sooner because I did not want to believe it, even though I knew he had health issues. Thank you @Unstoppablejayd for letting me know Monday about Walt Simonson’s post (a touching elegy over on his Facebook page). I also wasn’t sure if I should start a thread here, in Bronze, or in Comics General. I might add linking posts in both places to this thread. I met Dan when I was a high school kid in the 1980’s. There were no comic cons in the area, so I started a comic club and we started having them. Dan graciously attended the first one at the behest of the late Herb Trimpe, and I still have all but one of the pages I bought from Dan that day, as well as a Hulk sketch from Herb that Dan inked that day. Fast forward to a couple years ago — I stopped in an LCS that had a few OA pages on the wall and I immediately noticed one thing in common - all inked by Dan. Sure enough, he was consigning some items. I bought a Batman page and the owner was kind enough to reconnect us. I’d been in regular touch with Dan for the last few years, except for the last couple months. (Health, financial and other challenges converged on him and he moved away and sought a simple life.) Despite what I knew, I’m shocked by his passing because his life energy shone through even when his breath was short. I can’t say everything I’d like in one sitting but that’s the background on how I know him. Goodbye, buddy. You’re probably talking brushstrokes with Al Williamson and Joe Sinnott while inking something Berni Wrightson drew. Popular Post Readcomix
I recently met up with John Hebert to pick up a piece of his, and we were talking about the various pros who, along with John, called the Albany Comic Con their hometown convention. Dan was a regular there too. When his name came up, the first thing John said was, “Dan was too good for comics. His fine art was phenomenal.” I had some sense of this from his Shamballa work. Here is a painting from his recent years. Dr. Balls, SquareChaos, Twanj and 3 others
Popular Post Readcomix
This was the last Dan page I picked up. Nice inks over Val Semeiks (ASM Echoes) but the back was a real treat to find. cloud cloddie, Unstoppablejayd, Dr. Balls and 4 others
