It was $8,188.89 in August '04. I'm pretty sure Jason Ewert was the high bidder (with one of his eBay aliases). I wonder what ever happened to that book...

893whatthe.gif I hope some diligent member of these boards downloaded the scan during the auction so we'll have a "before" picture to compare against if a non-pedigree 9.4 were to appear.

How many times does a book need to be graded before it's "done"?

CGC's answer = As many times as you want to submit it.

It's like the casino's spin on slot machines, eventually you may win a jackpot.

Based on a $20K price tag I'd say that's DD #7 9.4 is a $12K jackpot.

how many times have you looked at a book and change the grade. I know every one does. One day it's a 8.5, then next its a 9.0 or a 8.0....lighting, your empty stomach and your mood all affect this...there is emotion involved. Books with CGC go down in grade too, not just up gossip.gif

The only time I heard about that happening was the Hulk 1. No one's going to admit "Hey, I got a lower grade!". So people probably have an inflated view of how often this happens which leads to more and more resubmits.

Very much like going to Vegas. Who is going to tell you that they just lost money...

but you always hear about the jackpots.

What a gorgeous book. I'm kind of surprised that given Doug's awesome SA collection, which just about covers any book you would ever want in high grade that he hasn't (or has he?) started buying GA stuff.

He's not interested in GA. At one time he had a lot of pre-code horror in HG, including lots of Gaines copies and all those Thing issues from multiple pedigrees are still his.

My guess is due to other reasons, I wouldn't expect him to get into GA.

Regarding the DD #7 CGC 9.4 that sold on eBay, JE did win it and Ghost Town was in second (see that he still needs a CGC 9.4 on his registry).

My guess is that JE had another buyer (realize not all HG collectors put their books in the registry or even buy from eBay). There are some HG collectors who just let dealers buy their books (I know dougsdounut who buys and sells on eBay does this for one big time collector).
