It doesn't look that way, so there is an outside chance I can't thoroughly dismiss, that it may be original as is, weird as that sounds, unless there is evidence of other staples. Regardless it is a reading copy of a non-key, so you may as well remove those and staple the book so it seals the cover yourself or leave it alone. It is not a candidate..
