  1. the moderate wear under top staple makes it a 8.5/9.0 for me. the mark in the price box, can it be removed?
  2. 7.0 as long as that's not a tear on the bc.
  3. I'm talking about strong, cut thinly, totally clear and minimalist tape, on the back not front. Like, along the tear, on inside on front or back covers, not visible, or nicely done light spine split repair, etc. CGC's grading of tape is harsher than had been the mainstream view. Any opinions on when if ever tape is justifiable or even better than not? Overstreet still allows minor unobtrusive tape all the way up to VG in rare cases, but lower is common. I find myself in situations where tape application is good for the book but sometimes I hesitate thinking if its ever sent to CGC it might zoomline to 1.8.
  4. I have a sub-100 FF with a tape pull, same exact size... did it myself half-asleep. bummer.
  5. - edge loss on all pages of cover. - soiling spots (1) front spine on white, (2) back cover top - spine tick between "n" in "austin" and staple - rubbing with ink loss about half-inch top spine cover - top spine impacted corner, bottom spine slight abrasion - possible foxing or cleanable dirt line above children on back cover (or could be color bleed, can't tell here) - printing defect (not high enough grade to be considered) honestly I'm around 8.0-8.5, perhaps 8.5 more likely at CGC. I'm not sure if they would go 9.0. This would be a VF book for me, 8.0 I would grade it for myself. -
  6. I doubt the spots are foxing. What's the black spot on the "a" in "Canada"?
  7. It seems to me a lot of posters lately are more interested in how high the book could go than what it IS in their photos. Which is really a bit much to ask.
  8. Well, then with this level of confusion, that being possible, he should call and ask.
  9. thanks, yeah I see.. so hard to grade a book this DIRTY with just images. The more i look, the more I say I really don't see 6.5 potential. Looking more at that section on the cover in the lamp and under it also. I don't know if I can totally bar consideration of 6.0. When books are this dirty it's hard to tell what's going to come off. For example the dirt spot under the green chair. And inside the lamp bulb, where there is a light crease that will look a lot better if it cleans off. If everything worked out best as possible do you still think the panels on the BC and that little ink loss on kids prohibit any consideration of 6.0?. The panels are in word balloons so there's probably some dirt stuck on the damage there that makes it look worse. How much is true ink and/or paper loss? If I had to grade it NOW I would go 5.0 but I think 4.5 is harsh. Sometimes I don't know if posters are asking what the potential is or what it is in state.
  10. I agree with grandelbo. MCS appears too focused on the interior page. Many people would want to cut that interior page(s) which is sticking out, but of course to do so would be ill-advised. Now, since it's a consignment item, it's never been worked on, it needs a P&C, and there "could be" an improvement to the interior page situation, while still maintaining a blue label. No guarantees on that. The only thing I don't agree with is how a protruding blank border interior page(s) can "affect readability". If this one intrigues you, it may be worthwhile to call them and find out what other books the very same seller has up for consignment because those are likely undergraded also.
  11. I think you should buy a better copy for your signings.
  12. I think what you're seeing is really dirt. This book needs to be cleaned by someone who knows what they are doing. There is 6.5 potential because dirt is the main problem. But probably not higher with the creasing. How much of that dirt has become soiling is not possible to ascertain until a thorough cleaning is done. I hesitate to say 7.0 with that crease between the "L" and "Superman" on the front cover, but it's not totally out the question after a P&C to see how it looks, so get it done.
