Question on Mylar Envelopes and "A" enclosures

Back in around 1985-1990 I brought several boxes of Mylar envelopes from I think Cole. Got them in Silver and Modern. In recent years, when buying I have been getting "A" enclosures sometimes doubled. Mylite bag inside the Mylar "A" envelope. Does anyone know why Mylar envelopes dropped out of fashion?  Did they just stop making them ? Was there thought to be a storage issue?
