You don’t happen to have WDCS 31? First Barks? Great books so far!

I'm not a dealer, just a collector unloading just these three ducks for now.

Tomorrow, I'll probably turn to a different theme. Not sure what.

Oh, OK. I didn’t necessarily think you were a dealer, just a collector who might be putting up more duck books. Thanks.

No problem. Reasonable question.

Item 4: Two Milt Caniff Patriotic Publications!

Magazine of Sigma Chi (April 1942 - very early WWII) featuring a Milt Caniff Uncle Sam patriotic cover! PRICE: $200 (will consider offers but in a CGC world do you really think this rare Milt Caniff patriotic cover is not worth it?)

  • A super-patriotic WWII cover by one of the best comic artists of his time and a true patriot
  • Caniff was a Sigma Chi and very occasionally provided covers for the Magazine of Sigma Chi
  • This one obviously meant a lot to him as its a classic patriotic image
  • High Grade - Judge for yourself but the colors are vibrant and pages are beautiful
  • Rarely seen - This is one of the items which rarely comes up for sale and when it does folks just don't know what it is

So you wanted something that looks a bit more like Terry and the Pirates?

Item 5: Magazine of Sigma Chi (July 1942 - early WWII) featuring a Milt Caniff miltiary Recruitment cover! PRICE: $175 (will consider offers but in a CGC world do you really think this rare Milt Caniff patriotic cover is not worth it?) - Oh ... did I mention I have another Air Raid pamphlet? Yeah I do. I'll throw that in for the purchaser of this lot also!

  • A patriotic WWII military recruitment (Knights Templar?) cover by one of the best comic artists of his time and a true patriot
  • A self-portrait interior illo with his Terry characters!
  • Caniff was a Sigma Chi and very occasionally provided covers for the Magazine of Sigma Chi
  • Here, at the start of US involvement in WWII, he's already recruiting Sigma Chi's into the Army (WWII Terry is riddled with Sigma Chi references)
  • High Grade - Judge for yourself but the colors are vibrant and pages are beautiful
  • Rarely seen - This is one of the items which rarely comes up for sale and when it does folks just don't know what it is

Plus you get a copy of the Air Raid pamphlet above as a bonus!

Ok, ok, maybe you want Caniff drawing soldiers on the cover?  Or maybe you want 120 pages of Caniff content?

I can do that! This is the grail:

Item 6: The Magazine of Sigma Chi (February-March 1945 - TRIBUTE ISSUE!) featuring 120 or so pages of interior content by and in tribute to Milt Caniff on the 10th Anniversary of Terry & the Pirates! PRICE: This one is a GRAIL. $400 but I'll consider offers.

IMG_2018.jpg.9ee21b7ca8b2fe5b10b11b8e7b7020ee.jpg

I'd call this one more mid-ish grade than the other two above, but still on the high side for any copies you ever see.  How many folks here have one of these!?! To my knowledge, no one has ever CGC'd an issue of The Magazine of Sigma Chi! The number of these I've seen come up for sale is tiny. Maybe less than a handful - by which I mean five.

Why did I even start with the cover when this issue includes over 50 PAGES of tribute illustrations to Caniff! A few examples by artists and characters you might recognize:

Racy below!

But, yeah, there's also a bunch of articles, photos (including of mascot/pin-up paintings on airplanes), and rare Caniff illustrations - many from almost never seen Sigma Chi publications. Some of the content:

About 120 pages of Caniff content. Really really great stuff! I'm leaving out maybe 40 tribute cartoons, dozens of rare photos and illustrations, and some of the articles also. This is an amazing publication for a Caniff and comic art lover.  A real grail for any lover of newspaper strip and comic book art!
