Bmj1282
so I bought a small collection and best book was a journey into fear 19 mark jewelers. My question is book is in excellent condition but right edge looks like there is some tearing or chipping, is there a chance that this was an error in cutting or is this definitely tearing from being mishandled? I have accompanied pictures, I have been collecting and grading for years and have never seen this. BlowUpTheMoon

zzutak
This looks like silverfish damage to me. Mice/rodents typically nibble on both the cover and the interior paper. Silverfish typically limit their meal to just the cover (leaving the interior undamaged). Here's a much more extreme example. BlowUpTheMoon
Is it only the cover that shows "chipping" or do the interior pages also show signs of it? Edited Thursday at 06:43 AM by BlowUpTheMoon

LowGradeBronze
I'm not sure it would put me off, given that it's such a classic book. Those silverfish had good taste.
