X-men 137, cgc 9.9, wp

It sold for about maybe $900, 950 onebay 3.5 to 4 years ago. I know who owns it, just wondering. What about this:does anyone think the prospects of a like or higher grade will come to pass? I have not loked at the X-Men census recently. I am sure their can't be many 9.9 Bryne era X-Men?

Geez $2,100 for a book that you can get in 9.8 for next to nothing just makes no sense to me.

Holy Crud! How do you know this book is worth $2,100?

THIS MARVEL COMIC COULD BE WORTH $2500 TO YOU! (details inside)

Joe,

While a minor key and a cool part of the greatest X-Men story ever, I agree with the others here in saying there's no way I'd pay the extra money to get a 9.9 as opposed to owning a far cheaper 9.8 -- the difference becomes etherial. I would actually bet there is a 10.0 somewhere out there, even if it hasn't been graded yet.

I got very curious, and did the census--here are the results. This is NOT counting price variants and UK versions, of which there are no 9.9's anyway. i made a not when there were only a handful of 9.8's, otherwise if there is no note of how many 9.8's, then they are relatively plentiful.

X-Men 94-- no 9.9, (1) -9.8 1843 graded

That is roughly 20, 600 issues graded. I did not do the exact math, if someone else wants too, that would be great. Plus another 200? UK and price variants, for a rough total of 20, 800 issues graded. Of those a total of THREE are 9.9's, with no 10.0's. Again, I did not do the exact math, but what is the percentages here? About .40 %, or 4/10 th's of 1 percent? So even with all those comics sitting out there, how many are gonna grade 9.9, or 10.0? If you want something rare, go for 2.0 or lower. most of the issues had grades down to 3.0 to 4.0 range, but none lower except the two noted here. And does this mean that over of the run, that #107 is the rarest in grade, with "only" 191 graded. And #122 with 267 graded, #103 with 268 graded, #113 with 271 graded, and #115 with 289 graded and #114 with 293 graded, are they all scarcer in grade? Every other issue has at least 300 or more graded, with many in the 400, 500, 600 range.

I did not check later issues, just up to #141, I would be interested to see how many of those are 9.9. Are there any 10.0's before 1985, just to use a arbitury year.

Numbers 94 to 99, 107, 114, 115, and 116 seem to be relatively scarce in ultra high grade, 9.8 or better. Combined with the low number of 9.8's graded, and the relatively low number of issues graded, it looks like 107 is the scarcest of the run. And numbers 94, 96, 97, 99, 107, 114, and 116 are the hardest to get in 9.8 or better.

Thats roughly 1 in 7000 that graded 9.9 So every issue, to follow the percentages, would have to have 7000 issues graded to get ONE 9.9 That would be, what?, 48 issues (94 to 141) multiply by 7000= 330,000 issues graded. What would be the chances of anyone completing a run of #94 to 141 in 9.9 grade? If cgc has graded roughly 20,800 X-Men (numbers 94-141 only), in 5 years, then at the rate it is going, time wise, it would take another 74 years or so to grade enough issues to get ONE 9.9 for every issue, if percentages hold up.
