Captain America Comics #74

I saw it too. I believe it sold for $2,777...

Here's something interesting about this classic book. When I first met Marty Nodell in 1978 he had a photostat of this book in his effects. He said he drew this cover and a few others for Stan Lee before the Atlas implosion. I believe some of the other covers are Marvel Tales in the 93 to 100 range.

Marty related to me how Stan was so anguished about having to lay off almost his entire staff that he was crying like a baby.

I recall that in one of Stan's biographies. I think the book went for a nice price as here are the GPA stats. If anyone has a low grade copy please let me know.

what grade are you guys giving that book?

grading GA books is something i have no experience with

Depends on whether or not there are tears on the front and back edges. Not sure if they are just creases. In any case, I can't see this book getting muss less than a 6.0 regardless. Just a gorgeous copy. If I had the means I would have bid this copy up to 3K and it would have been worth every penny.

I picked up a raw unrestored 4.0 copy of this book off Ebay for only $1250 USD 7 months ago.

I was thinking of bidding $1500 but the book was already at $2000 within auction ending

EC any thoughts of selling it in the near future please let me know. I'd be willing to pay you a handsome amount over your initial cost.

Will do Silver Surfer ..I would have to upgrade my copy prior to offering you the book, and the unfortunately the likelihood of that happening for a feasible amount of money is very slim I imagine. sorry.gif

Well I will do what I can to make that "feasibility" much easier for you. thumbsup2.gif

I was thinking 5.5 Moondog. Really nice cover appeal though it would be nice to have better scans.

5.0/5.5 was what I was thinking as well - hard to be sure without a bigger scan.

5.5 was my first thought, the slight staple pulls/tears and creases on the back cover keep this from going to far above that grade, but the cover gloss and corners look pretty darn nice.

I'm a notoriously strict grader, Andy (you bought this, right?). That's why I've only had to send one book back from my eBay sales the past 2 years (and the buyer was right - it wasn't only miscut, it was trimmed too).

5.0 - 6.0 are grades. It's got great eye appeal though that's worth a premium.
