How is the Orlando MegaCon?

45 posts in this topic

Mega-Con is great, I've enjoyed watching it get better every year.

Of course, my only real interest is back issues, especially high grade copies, and last year was by far the best for having a choice selection of books to choose from.

I will be there helping out Brent of Qualitycomix at his booth. Stop by and say "hi".

I'm going, this will be my first MegaCon, although I wonder if having the NYC Con the exact same weekend will have any effect on it, like which dealers will be there and everything.

This is my first too - I don't think they NYC con being the same day bodes well for the dealer room. I hope I'm wrong though.

Qualitycomix

Motor City Comics

Bedrock Comics

Graham Crackers Comics

...are all well established "big time" dealers that will be there.

There will also be a number of decent regional dealers that are mainstays at Mega-Con. Here is a list of the Dealers scheduled to attend: Exhibitor list .

Despite the unfortunate clash of two major Cons, both CGC and Neat Stuff will be setting up at both shows....

Sad that Motor City, Bedrock (and Quality, of course) can't be at NYC, dammit.

They were all here last year, and since they opted to return, must've had decent shows.

Can't let those damn New Yorkers have all the good dealers, can we? grin.gif

Most likely they'll just be taking submissions - I don't think with their manpower split like that that they can do any onsite grading...

I hope next year they try to stagger the dates of these two cons and not have them on the same weekend, but either way I'm going to MegaCon and will have a good time. hope to see you all there.

I will be there Friday and will be bringing a cgc box or 2 with items to trade or sell. The show itself is ok - I have been to all of them except 1. I actually had a table at the first 2 back in the day. They had Toddy Mc the first or 2nd year and about 10k people came on a saturday! Another year, Glen Danzig came when he started Verotika comics - the Con coincides with Bike week in Daytona and he came for both - and brought another kind of famous guy with him that you may have heard of - Frank Frazetta! In my opinion, the con has become less comic book related every year - more toys, gaming etc. Which is fine if you are into all that stuff. I mainly collect comics but you can everything from original art to transformers to dvds to golden age books and soft-core porn girls there! It is usually a pretty freaky crowd too so bring a camera. Lots of goth dress up kids along with star wars types, the trekkies etc. Who ever asked about the crowd - go on Friday if possible as Sat is usually elbow to elbow. Usually some decent books around but also some hard bargainers - especially Motor City. Vinnie from Metro came last year and I picked up some books from him but I doubt they will come this year. Went to the FX con last week for the first time and it was pretty fun - by the end of the day I had spent several hundred dollars and toys and figures I never knew that I needed!

Alas I have no Joes! But - apparently dressing up like them from the cartoon is about a big a deal now as dressing up like star trek characters! There was a whole troup of folks dressed up like GI Joe/Cobra characters at the FX - they were pretty cool looking. I got a good pic of my 7 year old with a cobra guy and Boba Fett!
