any 9.8's

To each his/her own.....but paying multiples to 'upgrade' that book to a CGC 9.8 is

 

I'll put that copy up against any CGC 9.8 of the same book.

I flipped a 9.8 X-Men 173 (black cover) that had 1 color-breaking spin stress (~1/16"). I'll see if I still have the scan.

I agree to a point. The Joes i collect dont go up by the thousands per .2 of a grade! In my quest for the best, ive just gotta have those 9.8s. I can definitely see a difference between them and my 9.6s but thats just me. BTW, i think you were robbed on the 317, unless there are any indentions in the book.

Do you mean the 316? I'd say that book is pretty much unimprovable. White pages. Perfect QP. It really doesn't get much better than that copy.

I've seen lots of 9.8's with none color breaking creases. I don't actually own any of them. But the guy I submit books for. I've seen those books and 9.8's have none color breaking creases.

Ya win some...ya lose some. I submitted ASM 298-328 as a 9.6 pre-screen....and got my fair share of 9.8s.

I have a CGC 9.8 with one very small NCB spine stress. I still feel the grade is justified.

 

I've yet to meet a submitter that's said "CGC got it WRONG! That's a 9.6, not a 9.8"...

I was surprised when I got a #3 of GI JOE graded 9.8. I graded it 9.4 tops and I mentioned it to them.
