How does PGX compare gradewise to CGC?

27 posts in this topic

FFB has stated on more than one occasion that PGX grade fractionally tighter in the higher grades (above 8.0) but are looser in the mid and low grades, regardless of age. I generally agree with that.

Just curious. Does that work for both companies? If PGX grades HG stuff tighter..does that mean they take off for things that CGC considers not as important? And if so, does that mean those same rules apply to mid grade stuff?

Reason being is HG stuff has very few flaws, and one can make a very sound case as to why a book should , or should not grade out at a certain number.

But mid grade stuff, well there are just too many things going on to determine exactly what it was that made the book grade higher, or lower then one might expect. Depending or course on what your peticular pet peeves are.

So when someone says PGX is looser on mid grade stuf, does that mean compared to how CGC would grade the same book. Or just that it is harder to really say one way or the other.
