What other non-superhero Valiants exist that fall in the pre-Unity timeframe?

 

I found Super Mario Bros. from Valiant. According to Overstreet, Vol 1 #s1-5 and Vol 2 #s 1-5 exist and were published in early 1990 and 1991.

Based on eBay auctions, these don't look very popular.

 

Also I noticed there is Link: Legend of Zelda from Valiant, #s 1-5, published in 1991.

Again based on eBay, these look like they're bringing about $3/copy.

In addition to "Nintendo" comic titles of Super Mario Bros, and Zelda,

Valiant also printed WWF Wrestling comics/magazines in 1990-91.

 

Both of these "special projects" were done for one particular purpose...

to make enough money to launch the Valiant Universe of superhero books.

 

Magnus #1 (May 1991) is the first Valiant comic from the Valiant Universe.

 

While the non-superhero books are technically still Valiant Comics...

they are more important to Nintendo or WWF collectors than Valiant fans.

What's interesting about those books is that they had HUGE print runs,

BUT...they weren't generally available in comic shops.

The Nintendo books mainly went to toy stores...

and the WWF books were available at wrestling events.

 

I believe that Legend of Zelda #3 is the first professional work from Joe Quesada.

 

I think that Valiant was also responsible for designing the "O" character

on the Spaghetti-O's can. Exciting stuff, huh? tongue.gif
