Pressing Squarebounds

Am I correct in assuming it would not be possible to press squarebound books, as it would

destroy the spine? Is this important sub-category of vintage books perhaps at least safe from

Generally you are correct. Pressing the entire book would be a problem.

 

However, spot pressing is possible as long as the flaw is not on the spine.
