If I don't get there this time, I will get to one of these shows. I'd really like to see them succeed.

I would like to see them succeed too. I have four kids to feed ages 10-17!

So far every penny has gone into the three NYC shows. They have been lots of fun if not profit.

maybe in 2007. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

The next after July 30 is October 8 in NYC.

I should probably be there. My wife saw the pass in the mail and asked me if I was going, which is a heck of a lot better than telling me I'm not going. Would have been nice if it was a free pass though.....

We sent out discount cards to everyone on our list and some free passes.

The New York City show July 30th had another big jump in attendance and I would like to thank Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Jamal Igle, Rick Leonardi and Steve Mannion for being such great guests along with the other 32 creators that attended. It really is fun with a big room of nothing but comic books, collectors and creators.

We had nothing but positive feedback on the show and the

next show October 8th will be even better with classic DC Batman and Spectre artist Norm Breyfogle as our guest of honor.

We have never had so many people take the time to say something nice on their way out of the show. cool.gif

wound up spending the morning playing with baby blob and never got to the show. he was so cute and cuddly I couldn't abandon him to go play with comics. i seriously considered taking him to the show, but pushing his stroller around through crowds would annoy people and he'd probably get sick of me looking through long box after long box as well after about 20 minutes.

maybe next time.

Out of curiosity-care to share the numbers of attendees, and did you attract any of the hi-end latino tourists market that sonofapromoterman always seems to attract?

Attendance was higher than the second NYC show which was higher than the first and no.

But it was a fun show with tons of comics and creators and none of the peripheral stuff. Attendees started lining up just after 8 a.m. for the 9 a.m. opening and it was busy all day. All of the dealers renewed their spaces and more than a few dealers attended and inquired about space at future shows.

Norm Breyfogle will be our guest of honor October 8th in NYC.

Thats a shame,I was thinking of taking a table or two.,but cryptic announcements from the"promoter" that attendence is up and was up tell me nothing about the show and utterly fail to convince me to give up a football Sunday for what?

You were going to take dealer space two days after the fact. oh. okay. confused-smiley-013.gif

What makes you think we would rent you space? We have a "bad dealer" list just like the casinos. There is an interview to weed out the shysters, kibitsers amd wise guys. Anybody who has been around awhile knows who they are. These boards have exposed enough of them. We want everyone to have a positive experience and we thrive to keep out negative elements.

Cryptic announcements should be in quotes and promoter should not be. I promote the show from a-z. That makes me a promoter. Look it up. I do what is in the best interest of the show and the people who attend it. People like the show. Thats a fact and New York has been a lot of fun. You missed it. People who bring bad attitudes are not brought back.

What cryptic announcements are you talking about? What difference does the attendance make? Every single dealer told me that they were happy with sales. Ask them. Not the promoter. You must be a newbie.

Ask somebody who went to the show or actually go to one and judge for yourself.

Real men don't mind watching a taped football game. Some of us work Sundays and support families.

For upscale Latino tourists! 893applaud-thumb.gif

Seriously If you are so concerned about attendance as a potential dealer you should have gone to the show yourself and counted collectors walking in.

While I think admission at $6.00 is steep that because I live the land of cheap gas where its still below $3.00 a gallon.

Be realistic about attendance its a one day "show" not a multi day "convention".You may not like Lemur's style but when it comes to promoting "one day comic book shows" in the Northeast he is the "King" (El Rey).

I was thinking about taking some spots for the show in Oct,although I've obviously changed my mind.Have I somehow ended up on your bad dealer list along with the other shysters, kibsters and wise guys? What a shame.

I would ask some of the dealers how the show was,if anyone I knew either did the show or attended it.Failing that,I figured I'd go to the guy "promoting" the show.

After twenty years of doing comic shows around the country, street fairs, flea markets, ect, ect in NYC,I've never had a promoter that didn't think attendence was or should be a factor in setting up at a show. Or had a promoter attack me for being an undesirable, without a) knowing who I am,b) knowing what I sell or c) ever, for any reason. Great marketing touch, you have there.

BTW-Which is it?

You know me and wouldn't give me a table because I'm a shyster, kipster and a wiseguy

or is it that I'm a newbie?

While neither makes sense, you somehow use both in your explanation.

Attendance is irrelevant if you do not have what the customer wants to buy.

Our dealers are first-rate with good attitudes and they all made money. They also all renewed their spaces so We may have to expand the show. As long as it stays all comics related. I was also approached by several dealers who were there to scope it out for space at future dates. Their checks told me that they liked what they saw. Many of them are smaller dealers who do the show because they know that they will always be treated fairly at our shows. This is why we have run almost 100 successful shows in 10 years in 5 different states. Dealers make money and people who like comic books and comic creators like our show.

But you keep setting up at them street fairs and flea markets where the big money is and leave New York City to those less timid and hung up on artificial numbers posted by liars by profession. Promoters all lie about attendance and how many of those attendees are not there for comic books?

Step right up! Lots of attendees who don't give a rats patootie about comic books!

We're the Hyman Roth of comic book shows. Our partners always make money. I care more about comics than squeezing one more dealer(dollar) into the room. The three NYC shows have been a very fun and positive experience of a big room with nothing but comics and comic creators. There has been a lot of positive energy in the room at each show. I am going to do my best to not let anybody screw things up. I have already had to let a prime dealer of vintage comics go because he just did not "get it". No dealer or guest will ever be more important than the people that pay to get in the front door. The show is for the fans and collectors. The fans/collectors/dealers who have made the effort to check it out have had a positive experience. Many, many have taken the time to say something nice on their way out of the NYC show. This is what makes it worth while because it is certainly not for the money.

I do not know you and I did not say that I would not rent you space. I said that attendance is irrelevant. The dealers have been quite happy. You still have to be willing to work for it. Call the office about space. The boards are for more serious matters.

You have to have a thick skin to survive on these boards. Neal Adams, Don Rosa and many others have been driven out by the villagers.

Actually I probably do "know" you as I have been set up at most New York City comic book shows over the last 15 years whether they be the Great Eastern,

Max Gottfreid, Big Apple or Comic-Con variety.
