Couldn't make it but wanted to -- if Breyfogle will be there, perhaps that will be the impetus I need to make it to this show -- unfortunately, for me, without a prospect of some high grade/high grade keys, my will to go usually wanes the night before. I do want to go though.

Get Storms to set up and maybe he'll bring the good stuff. New York City might be too far to travel at his advanced age though.

y'know, I know you are saying it jokingly, but I'll ask him to set up and assure him I'll at least buy something -- but of course my $500-$1k in sales is unlikely to induce him to come out since he can also get my money by sitting at home.

Nevertheless, I'll ask him.

BTW-Which is it?

You know me and wouldn't give me a table because I'm a shyster, kipster and a wiseguy

or is it that I'm a newbie?

While neither makes sense, you somehow use both in your explanation.

Maybe its because you're not a high end latino tourist 27_laughing.gif

I sure you two will work things out and become "bueno amigos" flowerred.gif

I would have thought so,but for some reason, this guys got a bug up his [embarrassing lack of self control].I've yet to hear from a single person, buyer or seller thats done the shows, all I keep hearing is attendence is meaningless if you have the right stuff, whatever the right stuff is. Can it be Hi Grade Siver doesn't go and last weeks books at 50% fly out the door?Anyways,he's made it clear he doesn't want my money, and somehow, some way,I'll survive.

Maybe ,one day,one of the couple of hundred forum members in the NY vicinity will attend a show and I'll find out what I'm missing.

In the meantime,My friends son won his third bracelet, this WSOP and the party continues. thumbsup2.gif

What makes you think we would rent you space? We have a "bad dealer" list just like the casinos. There is an interview to weed out the shysters, kibitsers amd wise guys. Anybody who has been around awhile knows who they are. These boards have exposed enough of them. We want everyone to have a positive experience and we thrive to keep out negative elements.

People who bring bad attitudes are not brought back.

What difference does the attendance make?

Real men don't mind watching a taped football game. Some of us work Sundays and support families.

Now where would I get the impression he won't rent me space 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Only from the voices in your head. 893whatthe.gif

Why are you picking a fight with both sonofpromoterman and myself for no reason whatsoever?

Lemur - you'll get more flies (show attendees) with honey. Two shows ago I made a comment that I thought there was some "dead space" in the room and another dealer or two in there would have been nice and you wanted to cut my head off. I did wind up dropping around $400-500 at the show in about 2 1/2 hours. I know, not big money, but if every attendee dropped $400-500 at a show like that most of your dealers would be so happy their heads would explode.

Shadroch - $5 and an hour of your time will tell you whether the show draws enough people. Actually, just the hour (assuming you don't live next door), because you can stand in the entrance to the room and gauge the attendance from there. Attendance is important, sure, but can easily be offset by a few motivated buyers in the room.

I want your show to do well Lemur, I really do. There's definitely room in NYC for two semi-regular shows and a big one at Javitz, particularly now that 75% of the comic shops have gone out of business.

The show sells itself to comic fans. If you "get" comics, you "get" the show. Its that simple.

You are exaggerating about cutting your head off. There was dead space in the room. I have been to hundreds of shows and they all have dead space. If the space is tight you should be in a bigger space. A few more dealers would have been nice since I have not made dime one yet in NYC. But I am not going to upset the balance and flow of the show to make a few dollars by letting any shmoe set up at the con.

I work hard at this and can get a little defensive at throw away comments when nobody but myself actually knows what goes into the making of a show. I do most of the pre-show work and my wife and children work the show with me. I am also fortunate to have long time loyal friends in the hobby. I have no team of "volunteers" or hobby toadies that work free for early admission. I only got into this as more than a hobby because of some shabby treatment by both dealers and promoters and I thought that maybe I could do a better job. Most of those people are out of the comic book business and I somehow survive. When it stops being fun because the legion of the miserable takes over I am out of here. Life is too short to listen to negative people who would not know a good thing if it bit them on the arse. All attendees are treated the same whether you spend a million or come to meet a creator. All three shows have been fun and everybody from dealers to attendees to creators are happy.

How about a detailed report? What are your impressions of the show and facilities?

Has it improved for you from the first show? What did you buy and from whom? Did you have any problems?

I went to the first one. It was fine for the type of shopping I was doing, which tends not to be chasing after grail books anymore. The weather was lousy (which likely impacted attendance initially) and I was out by noon. I was happy it wasn't too crowded when I was there, makes it easier for me to do my shopping. Started to pick up when I was leaving. Would have liked to see a few more dealers as it seemed that like 50+% of the dealer tables in the room were two dealers. Once I was done picking through their stuff I was sort of done for the day. I didn't make it to the last two shows. Hard to do it sometimes with a baby at home. Hope I can make it to October. For me, the show is easier than the Big Apple show as I can walk home from there, which is a plus.

Had I been in NY,I would have checked it out,but I'm in Vegas for awhile.I was hoping to read some comments from some forumites, before looking into setting up at the show in October. But no one seems to have attended.Attendence,is a factor although not the only one.

In the many years I've done shows, dating back to the mid-70s Seuling and Creation shows,I've never encountered hostility from a promoter for wanting some info about setting up at a show.

Anyway, his sandbox,he gets to choose who plays in it.

You have missed the point entirely. The only hostility is yours.

Shad asked for some numbers about the show. You said it was up but apparently he wanted some figures to decide for himself.

Do you not consider this to be hostile?

What makes you think we would rent you space? We have a "bad dealer" list just like the casinos.

I do not know shadroch. I was referring to the fact that we manage the show and do not just rent space to anybody with the money. There are some bad people in the comic book business who do things like press and color touch books and not disclose restoration. 893whatthe.gif Never mind the well known N.Y. dealer with his Frankenbooks. I will not expose my customers to these shysters. We screen the dealers. Get it yet? What difference does it make if there is an attendance of 1000 but they are all there for bootleg DVDs and you have comic books for sale?

The show was packed all day and all the dealers made money and went home happy. How can I explain this in less words? Read the previous posts. Its all there.

Its not the amount of dealers in the show it's the amount of stuff that they bring.

Unless you are there to buy dealers of course. Otherwise its totally irrelevant. Those two dealers brought over 150 long boxes of comics between them and they were all in alphabetical order at discount prices. I prefer less dealers with larger inventory. This enables the collector to get a maximum discount by making larger purchases from less vendors. It also helps the flow of the show. Would ten dealers with 15 boxes each have been better? We also had over 30 comic book creators.

It was busy and everybody had fun.
