so, I was watching this item with some vague interest- a tough issue to come by, but in sketchy condition- when the seller ended the auction early. The book had been up to $250 or so with a day left. Out of some sense of masochistic curiousity I emailed the seller to ask what the deal was- "was there an error in the desription, or was it ended early for another reason? will the book be back on auction? were additional defects found?"

 

I got an immediate reply:

 

" would like know what you were waiting for/ look at the photo do you not know every picture tells a story/ and why would you ask me if there are other additional problems the book is only about 62 years old how old are you and which book are uou talking about make an offer i have over 100 vintage books i just recently purchased a collection. and remember to get a good catch do not use chicken feed if you know what it is."

 

so I reiterated the reason for my inquiry, and got the following 10 seconds later:

 

"yes at a later date i have had so many emails ON THIS ITEM PLUS ON ON THE OTHER ITEMS I HAVE ON THE AUCTION I HAD TO TAKE 4 ITEMS OFF IN THE PAST 3 DAYS TO STAY ON TOP OF THINGS IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EMAILS AND MY OWN LIFE. THANK YOU KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN/ BYE THE WAY I AM OUT IN ATLANTIC CITY ABOUT 6-7 TIMES A YEAR THROWING MY GOOD MONEY AWAY IN THE FOOLS PARADISE I AM SURE YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT THE CASINOS. THANK YOU."

 

Now personally, when I blow money in Vegas it's usually on whores and booze, but I guess if the guy wants to waste his money on casinos, more power to him.

Anytime an ebay seller makes no sense (which can be fairly common) I walk away from the auction. And, the last time that book saw a FN+ grade was probably 60 years ago.

you mean he's STILL got that same GOOD minus amateurishly restored Piece of copy ? he's had that for some time now... I know he had it at last years Chicago con.

Shockingly, I bought NOTHING in SD this year. I had my eye out for the few Action war covers that I don't already have, as well as Schomburg Nedor war covers, but didn't see anything I really needed. And, with so much good stuff in the August Heritage auction, I ended up just buying some modern trade paperbacks from Chuck, and saving the rest of my $$.

well you do have alot of Actions and I can see where it would be hard to find ones that you don't already have, you are wise to not spend your money until you find the books you need,.. so did you see any decent Actions at the con or was it the same 'ol same 'ol ?

Definitely same ol' same ol'. The single-digit 9.0+ Supes that A-1 Comics had were awesome, but I didn't even ask about price. Out my league at the moment. I just wanted to find a nice slabbed Action between 30 & 50 in 6.0-7.5, and just couldn't find anything. Slacker was there, and also looking for Action war covers, but was as frustrated as me. He did pick up a #63 in about 3.5.

 

I was really hoping to find a 35, 39, 44, or 48.

I guess those same dealers will be at WW Chicago. Although maybe in the 2 week gap between the end of the San Diego Con and the start of WW Chicago, they will have all restocked on Action war covers.
