Missing cover specks and comic book grades

5 posts in this topic

One of the things that bugs me the most (and this might be a personal pet peeve) is when ink fomr the cover are missing. Specks of color, ink, etc are missing and the white areas seriously distract me from the rest of the cover and might actually interfer with how accurately I grade a comic. So, my question is, how many missing cover pieces or specks (and when I say missing pieces, I'm saying that the ink on part of the cover is gone but the cover is still intact - I'm not sure what the proper term for this is).

How big and how many of these kinds of pieces do you allow in various grades?

VF/NM and up : 0

VF : 1 1/8 inch or 2 1/16 inch

F: 2 1/8 inch

VG: 3 1/8 inch or 1 1/4 inch

Am I too strict or too lenient or screwing up? confused.gif

something like this.

the 1/8 inch chunk off the top left came off on the mylvar...and so did the 1/16 by batman's cape. those are examples of knicks.

i'm posting this in the "grade my comic" forum as well.
