are sketches in a sketchbook OA or not ?

and if not what do you think of them as ?

Classically speaking, the term OA I believe was meant to denote the originality of the published piece that was used to make the comic book page (or cover). In broader terms, today, it certainly includes all types of art that is original in nature, including sketches, commissions, unpublished pieces and published pieces. At least, that's how I've always felt.

Published pieces are easier to resell but I love to get sketches. Best way to try out a new artist or inker. Some will do a free sketch but I feel guilty so usually buy something off their table like a $4 comic or zine.

Some of the better comic-type artists don't do comics at all. They may work as conceptual artists in the fantasy gaming world (e.g. Electronic Arts in the USA or Canada). headbang.gif
