Western Comics/Dell/John Wayne

Based on recent ebay activity, I can't find any back up to what the OS price guide has on these books. I'm about to unload some of these out there, but would like advice on listing details. Is this a specialized interest category? Or is it that the main reason behind little eBay traffic on this stuff is that the people who collect these things can't work computers and/or are dead? tongue.gif

They can be of interest to a few markets; comic collectors, photo cover collectors (I assume there are some photo covers), western buffs and movie collectors.

I'd suggest using the Movie & Televison Memorabilia Other (category 197) as a secondary category for the ones with Wayne on them.

In the past, prior to the time that we could list in 2 categories, I did put the a Gold Key Planet of the Apes comic in the TV - Sci Fi section and it seemed to do well. Perhaps you can do a search on Bruce Lee and see where most of his items are listed and see if that works for you! grin.gif

TV or not Tv, that is the question...

TV sounds good. Bruce Lee is a definite attraction but GH is a real piece of nostalgia for TV fans. I think you will find more interested folk there than in any other secodnary category. (I recommend putting Bruce Lee in the title if you can fit it.)

None of my western comics sell on eBay. I don't know why. I start with a low asking price, a buck the most. Had some Lone Ranger, Tonto, Gene Autrey, Sheriff of Chochese, and some other TV westerns. All in very good condition. But none sold.

I'll tell ya what did sell of mine. TV show comics like Star Trek, I'm Dickens He's Fenster, Lennon Sisters, Monkees, Ben Casey, Whirybirds, Man from UNCLE, Lassie, Spin and Marty, and other Disney cartoon character comics.

I guess there isn't much demand for the western stuff.

I was thinking of putting a nice old WAGON TRAIN photo cover on eBay, but I doubt it would sell; westerns just don't seem to do very well, either as comic books or movies. When was the last really great western film that was a big hit at the boxoffice? TOMBSTONE was 10 years ago, and even that was only a moderate hit; it did better on video than at the theater.

It may be the liuck of the draw. I do know that there is a very vigorous Western market. It just depends on the usual factors: Do they have what you want? Are the right people on at the right time to make a bidding war?

If no - may not be as expected. If yes, may be beyond sanity! lol

I'm your Huckleberry! Tombstone rocked and was well watched several drunken nights back in college...which was most every night tongue.gif

Speaking of drinking:

the only reason Chick was "seasick" was probably hooking up with this seahag after drinking too much of the title (which is misspelled in the Overstreet big book)..

C'mon everybody now,...PASS THE CURVOISIER!

True, DD, but when was the last time a GA movie was a hit at the box office? Nudge nudge wink wink!

Don't let the Western thang fool ya'll. At the right time they can be hotter'n a horny toady on hot see-ment. (OK - I used to date a woman from Dallas/Ft Worth!). Just put a carefully thought out reserve or starting bid. In this instance the reserve (which I usually am not a fan of) may work. It may take a few listing but I'll betcha you'll get a bite. Is it a Ward Bind or a John McIntire?

Just a quick comment about 'Westerns' and 'John Wayne' ....

I agree that Westerns, in general, do poor to fair on e-auctions; however The Duke is a popular guy in movies or in comics. If you've got him, flaunt him right up front and you'll do well.
